Favorite pieces i like to build with

These are my favorite pieces to build with...I think I'm probably weird but I love thinking about what I could make emphasizing these pieces .  I like the industrial look!!

Putting it all together

As an AFOL..without kids...you are already a suspect as a weirdo or perv who can't go to discovery centers or chuck e cheese without kids as you are weird and can't be trusted around kids...your crime...you like lego as an adult.  Your only possibility of redemption is saying just the trains...then you may possibly be considered a normal adult

Well I'm probably go to make it worse by saying a song that inspires me comes from disney....and it relates to lego.   The song has the following lyrics

It's magic

Mirror mirror on the wall

Can you picture me at all

I could be whatever I want to be

I can make my story change

Just like in a picture frame

Magic spells and fairy tails

Pennies in a wishing well

Pick up the pieces

You just look inside

(Chorus)

When you put it together

It's magic

You go alacka, alacka zoom

When you put it together

It's magic

All you need is inside of you

So put it together

And go bibbidi, bobbidi boo

Everybody has their chains

Sometimes it's like it never seems

That your wish will change to reality

But if you feel you had enough

Don't you think of giving up

There's no mountain you can't climb

One step at a time

All that you needed

Was there all the time

When you put it together its magic

Song by Brooke Allison and lyrics from Genius.com

So as the song says and as any lego builder knows, often the ideas in your head...you just have to put the pieces together

Where I stumble putting big lego sets together is the starting pics in the instructions...it seems so far away from what the final model looks like i.e. building the death star...

So to wrap up, I'm an adult liking lego and a Disney song....no I don't wear a tutu while playing with legos and I skip the bippity boppitty part of the song when singing along

I almost bought it for the cool transparent blue pieces..could make an interesting feature for an airport terminal i hope to create...

What ive learned about plastic storage containers

Here's some tips I found for plastic containers.  I've tried so many types and for some pieces, Some containers work better than others.

These sterllite containers were at dollar general and perfect depth and size

I found these for a dollar and they are perfect size for different wheels

These type storage are great for seeing what you have ....I got 4 of these from a garage sale that were full of legos from pick a brick.  I think about the time and $ to get all those and I think I got a deal.  I like the deep ones also for rods and clips

I love the containers that have good clasps for security when carrying up stairs...they are a little deep but the short ones are perfect

These containers were great for securing via latches but they didn't have a handle to carry

This container was great for just generic blocks but way too deep and heavy, plus the lid caved in when stacked...they were a failure.

Nothing in the world of lego makes me happier than a "show off" container full of lego!!!!
These color shelves worked great for easily locating legos

Lego storageThese small white shelves were clearance but worked great for technic models, the green dirt bike and some bionicle pieces were in here.

These containers were the perfect depth and length for stacking and for moving around

These lids flipped up so I thought they would be great but they are too long and when full of lego, unable to be carried

I liked these black totes but due to solid color vs clear, I can't see whats in them.  They are perfect for 48×48 baseplates

The big 1 drawer sterilite container warped in the middle making the drawer unable to be pushed in.  Plus the top can pop off the uprights

One thing to watch with clasps on containers  little round or 1x1 pieces hide in the grooves

Husky sold these boxes for $26 at home depot and they are great for carrying and they hd a lot

These plastic containers actually came from Walmart as trash from Christmas items.  It took walmart 10 mins to confirm with the manager that it was ok to recycle these for use at home without buying them

These hardware cabinets from hardware stores were a garage sale find.  They needed cleaned up from rust.  They are great for sorting, but its hard to get small pieces out without them falling into the compartment next door.. however for sorting pieces of the same mold but different colors.  Target sd similar boxes in the dollar section but the same issues apply.  Five below had bead boxes of the same style.

These containers were from big lots...the handles are falling off and the plastic hinges are going to break

The wide 3 tier shelves tend to buckle and warp in the middle making it hard to pull or push the drawers in or out

These are the Walmart containers that crushed in the lid of the one below when stacked..suncast brand

These Rubbermaid containers were great in terms of size and stackability (if thats not a word, it is now!)  You can see whats in them but no handle is present

These block containers have deep grooves where pieces get stuck and the only way to release them is to take a knife or screwdriver to dislodge the stuck pieces which causes them to pop up and needing found where they fall to.

I bought these sterilite scrapbook cabinets and stacked two together but I crushed the beam where the wheel went in on the bottom...I love the drawers as each one has a plastic lid so you can pull out and carry individual drawers as needed.

Warm fuzzies with lego memories i.e. if i could back to one thing in the 80s!

So I've gotten away from the lego room theme, but indirectly when I think about the lego room, this is the memory that I love thinking about.  It was a good year while I waited for and wanted the lego yellow castle and sets.  Then for 2 other bdays i think where id get legos, my bday dinner and then eat at York steakhouse.

I would go to penny's 2nd floor toy dept to look at the yellow castle.  Then id run down to kb toys to see the same thing praying id find a mislabeled price tag on the knight procession,  knight tournament or castle to justify why mom and dad should get it right then!  Then we'd go meet grandma and grandpa and go to York steakhouse which was my favorite place to eat...so here's the pics

I'd eat then go home and play with legos...I think this happened 3 bdays in a row...what I wouldn't give to back to have one meal and be able to see lego classic sets at the store with parents and grandparents.   As one of my lego blogs noted along with others that I noted in the blog, it wasn't the blocks as much as memories and people I was with.
