The deals I've stumbled upon

Every afol knows that feeling when you see clearance lego.  You double check your eyes, you think how can I pay for this without debt.

As in the book "oh the places you'll go" by Dr. Suess...(my version)

"Congratulations, today is your day

Legos are on clearance today

you have boxes in your hands and walk quickly in your shoes

You can pick whichever self checkout you use" (and then argue with the cashier when it comes up regular Price

Reference pages 1-2 for "Oh the places you'll go" by Dr. Suess

In the case of used lego, you get so excited you forget 50% are tyco or mega blocks but you look past thinking well 50% lego is ok.  It's so bad, you justify buying even 5% lego.  Thrift stores sell ziploc bags that have about 20 lego pieces interspersed with weird plastic toy pieces or barbie accessories but you don't care how weird it looks because there is one of your favorite piece in there....

Well these are the sets that gave me a natural high when I saw it...

Initially I started collecting legos in 2000ish with a flea market find.  Then in 2003 I really got hooked again.  Here's some of my greatest deals:  pics below show multiple sets I bought in a single lot for $400

All of the above for $400!

The.only time Lego didnt help me

I was a little upset at lego this date.  I got a pick a brick order.  The one piece was a computer type and it was a 2c2 piece...but it was/came as DUPLO.  There was no indication that it way to tell when I ordered.  Here's the screenshot

This is how the description appears in the next pick a  brick site below

The service person said well, that's what you bought and that it was clearly stated...I told her even the packing slip doesn't show the duplo logo

I ended the call and got a rep who was more understanding and worked with me ... I just am clearing the record that I was right.  I never get to be right.

Make sure you don't get duplo on pick a brick.  The one clue I could have used would have been the open studs

Here's another interesting thing about duplo and regular lego together...A gun pointed towards duplo rail...why would the duplo be on the same page?

Non lego things I needed for my lego room

Non lego things I needed for my lego room

looking at my pics, I've found non lego things that have been helpful in cleaning and organizing my lego room

1) shelving liner for drawers...unless you have new plastic drawers

I like finding these old steel akro mills cabinets so I don't want dirt or rust on my legos (alot of them held screws etc... that left residue after even after 3 washes (I think I'll try coke on the drawers to see if the acid would remove the residue even on plastic)

2) alternative storage containers...orange juice containers, oxiclean containers...

3 steel shelves...not cheap plastic as it will warp

Above: Pop up  shelves from qvc are light but strong and mobile.  bungee cords used for safety of cabinets with rolling

The above metal shelf was from Sam's club...as an aside we canceled our membership after being chased down while loading into suv with door person accusing us of stealing it...the shelf was awful big to be stolen!!!!

4 lysol wipes

5 something you can put on the floor to sit on

I tried 2 ways to cover the floor but I had 2 separate flooding incidents so right now I don't have anything down on the floor.

Above:the best my lego room ever looked bc had reduced covid hours 2020 and I had time to get things completed.

Above:great blue mat from toys r us

Below:carpet used but destroyed with water

6 sorting trays/something with partitions to sort - removable partitions  are good for getting fingers into

7 towels for sorting: I have a few tricks with the towels or blankets

white makes transparent elememts hard to see

Big blankets are nice for size but too busy to see elements easier
This blanket is too busy to see individual pieces, so is the color of carpet...
You can hardly see the transparent drawers against the carpet

This pic is another example of business of the carpet

I kept finding pieces in that blanket!

Black and brown make a good background for seeing small translucent pieces easier i.e. helmet visors, small cheese wedges

0ptional ...cats

9 paper towels
These are helpful for cleaning dust...my room is in a recycled woodshop before we lived here and dust from the fluorescent ballasts and have falls at times.  Finally I took the ballasts down a few years ago

10 duct or gorilla tape works good if a drawer in cabinets gets broken or there is a small piece of dust in a plastic drawer that I can't get off and don't want to hurt legos

11)  Alcohol for hands

12) Tubs are nice for objects, but hard to see if multipletubs  of the same colors
13) Good lighting

14) Plastic bags are helpful for sorting

15) Ziplock big bags/ regular bags great for storing regular bricks and plates or pick a brick used lego store

So hopefully this info may help someone...
