What a difference 14 years makes

Sometimes I find pics that make me realize how lucky I am to have had my lego room grow...here's some before and after pics

I always like looking back and like comparing before and after.  Luckily a lot of the sterilite was clearance from target and I had a little episode of hoardingaddiction which was mostly storage from goodwill.  I have bought 1 major lego collection room and then about 5 smaller collections in the years since.

Lego road safety!!!

I am so excited to see the new lego roads that are coming out

FROM BRICKSFANZ SITE

I like the style of these new roads.  I have always thought lego has always lacked good road pieces to use for i.e. bridges or causeway.  One of the first pics of an idea for a bridge road came from the 6600 set

But regardless of the road type, the box art from lego ways shows a safety guard rail...especially since all the police chases are where a guard rail is present

;

Finally other rails of note:

Images are from the master builder create and race  series of books and the lego movie background is from The lego movie book
If they could just let people get off the road they'd crash and end of story, the guard rail just keeps the crooks going
Case in point

Able to pull over driver from behind, the side and block off front ...no rail.

So here's hoping 2021 doesn't go off the rails!

e rails!

New years ...another resolution to organize my legos

Well, another year but still haven't gotten legos organized....I got a bunch of new sets which I actually built and still working to organize all the new bricks.  Im waiting for a bunch of yellow transparent bricks to really make a classic space diorama.  I did so good cleaning my lego room when off for covid from low work hours but it's so hard to make time for my legos with work.  So hoping this year ill be better with time management.

I did get a special set for The Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.  I feel like I've make progress from last year but still know I've got a lot to organize still...I need to have a vision of my room organized from Christmas future!

So here's hoping for a lego organized future where I can find legos I want easier!

Here are some of the seasonal lego photos I took..

Sad to see shelves cleared but happy that kids got their legos for Christmas

My new organizers and sets from Christmas 2020

I had the perfect pic of tubs either side showing...all on sale at walmart...if I could be that organized and know what was in them!

Getting to the heart of my lego room

There comes a point where you realize that if you collect or have a bunch of "things" that maybe there is a deep reason..  I have and love looking at lego pics on internet, I have thousands that are so amazing...I could look at them over and over.  But its only certain types, lego town and classic/neoclassic space.  And usually the pics I like the most are related to models I made or that I played with with friends...or building with legos from a box while sitting on my grandmas floor while spending the night.  It wasn't so much the legos per se...it was the fun times and the people that were around me; it was being young with unlimited dreams and being in safe and fun environments where I was loved and taken care of by parents and grandparents.  I found 2 blogs on the Internet this year that expressed this feeling better than I could express on my own...

Jesus Diaz in gizmodo jan 28, 2008 wrote how the sets themselves weren't the main thing that made legos great, "it's what happened around them that made them special"

From Jesus Diaz on Gizmodo, Jan 28, 2008

This person is saying the same thing im trying to verbalize, but better than I can say it.  Legos themselves are nothing but things...its the fun of putting them together and the good memories of childhood that make the pieces come alive.  Its more the spirit of creativity and fun and potential  as well as memories of building with people that brings lego room and lego mocs to life.
And this is what I think the heart of lego and my lego room is.
May the true spirit and meaning of lego and Christmas this week be in everyone's heart!

Money saving tip at pick a brick

In any good classic space or neoclassic space diorama, one has to have caution tiles with chevron in yellow and black...i.e. all wings of the original 924 and 928 have this on the wing.  So I was thrilled when I saw a tile that would be perfect on a diorama of a hangar with gray floor. It was on pick a brick as shown here

Since I was buying pieces all on bricks and pieces, I typed this piece# in and this came up

So the piece was almost 1/2 off on the pick a brick vs bricks and pieces.  The 1x2 trans yellow plate was .08 vs .10 on the two different buying areas...so fortunately you can order from both pab and b+p but it may pay to check!

Finding a way to make a cheap transparent yellow plate

Nothing says classic space like gray blue bricks and plates, red hubcaps and transparent yellow plates....which are expensive and mostly in countries outside us on brickwork costing a lot in shipping.  So I've set out to create a 4x10 plate....with the lego movie sets I've got the trans yellow windscreens but no trans yellow plates!   Here's my solution

Note the round yellow piece middle right portion
What saved me though was the only trans yellow piece that eliminated having to use 3 layers deep...the inverted tile 2x4. So my bday $ bought
The clear are just temporary til the all yellow come..

x150

x100

So this is my alternative to

I'll stack 3 1x2 plates and have my yellow 1x2 bricks and 4x10 6x8 plates...then I'll be able to make my classic/neoclassic spaceships!!
Lego please bring back classic space!!!
