I found my prized possession today
Love the gray and blue color scheme in classic space! I obtained these in early days of ebay i.e. 1999 before exorbitant prices became the norm! I always crack up when now I see i.e. (hypothetical) 2 1x1 white bricks for $40 ha ha...it will then say in stock which it's going to be for a long time!
I like/dislike green legos depending on context and shades. Darker green as in octan is ok but the green in alien conquest is hideous
Here are examples of good and bad green shades or use of green in models. Per my thoughts
1) translucent greenal--always good
4) Dark green... I don't like when used in trains
Lately I've been wishing there were classic space sets. I just would like to remember and go back to easier times. Last night, while working on Pics for the last blog entry, I came across a website called The Verge. And there it was...THE GALAXY EXPLORER THROWBACK WHICH LOOKS FANTASTIC. I have dreampt this would happen for years. There was a great proposal on lego ideas for a similar model but it didn't happen/get enough votes for production
I love that the tiles are printed, the white arrow is just made by bricks. I cannot wait to photograph the 2 boxes of the 1979 version
I cannot express how happy I am! I have dreamt of this day and most of the legos I have and several blog entries are about bringing back classic space and trying to recreate the look (neoclassic space). I thought Benny's spaceship was the closest I would ever see released in the classic space style. I cannot imagine what it will be like to actually have this in my hands!
I am so desperate to see classic space come back, that any small glimpse of the theme i.e. video games, small builds in books cause me heart palpitations! Here's some of the things I was able to grab that have the color theme (gray, blue, yellow and black), or just similar shape/style.
