UNREAL...CLASSIC SPACE IS BACK!!!

Lately I've been wishing there were classic space sets.  I just would like to remember and go back to easier times.  Last night, while working on Pics for the last blog entry, I came across a website called The Verge.  And there it was...THE GALAXY EXPLORER THROWBACK WHICH LOOKS FANTASTIC.  I have dreampt this would happen for years.  There was a great proposal on lego ideas for a similar model but it didn't happen/get enough votes for production

I love that the tiles are printed, the white arrow is just made by bricks.  I cannot wait to photograph the 2 boxes of the 1979 version

I cannot express how happy I am!  I have dreamt  of this day and most of the legos I have and several blog entries are about bringing back classic space and trying to recreate the look (neoclassic space).   I thought Benny's spaceship was the closest I would ever see released in the classic space style.  I cannot imagine what it will be like to actually have this in my hands!

75329 greebling in a set

I was thrilled to see the lego trench run. Oddly in cleaning the day before, we found a 75$ gift card...so I used it and got this set

Love this turret, makes me remember watching the original in the theater  and seeing the light missiles coming from the turret

I love that there is greebling on a large scale.  These pieces will be great for a classic space moc.   The variety and amount of the pieces is fantastic.  If this goes on to a bigger scale or length, it will be hard to not have if it is affordable!

Unsure why the 2x4 brick appeared dirty

Can not wait to greeble!!  Perfect set in my opinion...

Sentimental set just from the pictures

Sentimental lego set...the bookshop..

I didn't want to spend $178 on this set, but the bookshop set I've seen brings back college memories (from years ago!)

This is a picture of the set that I like from lego.com

Sentimental bookshop, expert, creator
I'm a nerd, but I liked to study in college and there was a library with 4 floors and a window on the 4th floor like this building .  The 4th floor was only study carels but it had comfy chairs below the window so you couldn't see out, but there was good light from the window...

Library like bookstore

Above pic from Mapio website

I don't know what it was about that building but I could take any hard subject and learn it there because it was so quiet and peaceful...
Fast forwarding to grad school,  there wasn't a building I could find that was quiet enough to study in, so when stuff got too hard to learn, I'd escape after classes to Borders bookshop in the city that was blocks away.  It was 3 stories and I'd just look at books that were more relaxing than textbooks..  it had trees in front..the only pic left on internet that I could find was here...

So, this set is one I'm hoping to find used..it takes me back to memories of youth and the sense of being able to learn anything in those books.  So different from now where everything is digital and having to stare at a computer to learn!!  Long live bookshops! (And libraries!)

Absolute favorite building inspiration pics...part 1 the beginning of wanting multiples of the same piece and in 1 color

I remember when I got lego hospital 555...before the modern day minifigs...that was the first time I had multiple pieces of the same color...both red for the hospital and gray tiles for the drive up squad bay...that was the first time I saw a creation somewhat more realistic than just random color pieces...it also drove me nuts losing one gray tile...the perfect smooth squad driveway now had 2x2 rough patch...too much vibrating for my poor squad patient...
A little later, the lego group gave another reasons to have multiple similar pieces....and this became my favorite lego picture idea...
The ski center and jump (lego group idea book 265, copyright 1981).  The ski jump was lined with the tiles just like the hospital driveway...and the supports were multiple of the gray round 2x2s.  Also of note is that the hospital set had only 1 tree, I had to get multiple trees!!
