Favorite helicopters

Ok, I wasn't t a big helicopter fan in the past with the exception for air ambulance and rescue ops.  In legoland however, there are some helicopters that I always liked and some that I didn't care for. More and more I am liking helicopters and wish I had gotten some of them...

Favorites

This is the first helicopter I had.  I liked having a color coordinating set (police station) and the door was a new piece I'd never had before

Like the  color scheme, neat dark blue helicopter
This green is my least favorite color but the helicopter is full with a body that angles up to the tail piece.  Also I like the cockpit preformed piece, looks realistic to me
I wish I had bought this set, I could have had a shark but what I like is that blue with gray color scheme

I like the covered wheel look but the pointed nose of the cockpit piece looked like a pencil tip

I like the above police helicopter because of the full body with a slope leasing up to the tail piece.
I don't remember seeing this model but always thought blue, yellow and black were a good color scheme.  Also the cockpit piece is rounded unlike a pencil tip!

I liked this set mainly for the windows and didn't really see the helicopter until later on with unboxing

I got these as target had a sale and I think that they were cheap

I liked the front detail on this helicopter and the detail compared to a similar model released about 2 years later

And last but not least, my favorite
I like the landing rails being full vs just simple flat plates

Least favorites

Least favorite...I don't know why except that they were older or technic or didn't like the colors

Lego show

I did get to go to a lego show recently.  It was challenging getting around in a scooter but my wife did a great job taking pics

New York is in the 2 pics below.  Still have a deep sadness about trade towers.   Empire

Launchpad below...love the girder/greeble look of the pad

Some fantastic talent.

UNREAL...CLASSIC SPACE IS BACK!!!

Lately I've been wishing there were classic space sets.  I just would like to remember and go back to easier times.  Last night, while working on Pics for the last blog entry, I came across a website called The Verge.  And there it was...THE GALAXY EXPLORER THROWBACK WHICH LOOKS FANTASTIC.  I have dreampt this would happen for years.  There was a great proposal on lego ideas for a similar model but it didn't happen/get enough votes for production

I love that the tiles are printed, the white arrow is just made by bricks.  I cannot wait to photograph the 2 boxes of the 1979 version

I cannot express how happy I am!  I have dreamt  of this day and most of the legos I have and several blog entries are about bringing back classic space and trying to recreate the look (neoclassic space).   I thought Benny's spaceship was the closest I would ever see released in the classic space style.  I cannot imagine what it will be like to actually have this in my hands!

Thrilled with 2022 sets released

I saw online the new sets at target and I love some of the new releases...they are wonderful for having classic space colors and pieces

Above: Love the. Vehicle above, could be in a classic space diorama as is

Above: Middle pic is a great ship in classic space

below:
Love the blue rails to complement gray pieces

I like the yellow with blue for classic space
Gray pieces above are great, but expensive under star wars licensing

Sentimental for 80s legos

I watched the new "Top Gun Maverick" this date. The movie took me back to being a kid in the 80s when lego was "primitive" by todays standards in terms of types and sizes of sets. SPOILER ALERT...there is a scene with the old f14  (or 15) jets go up against the newer jets.  I must be getting old as I rooted for the older jets even though the new jets that the enemies had are much more capable, expensive, and maneuverable.

And then a book I saw at the library came to mind  (which is available at my library and on the Lego website.).  It's called I'm fun too!

The premise of the book is that old sets from the late 70s early 80s being behind the times compared to the current sets of 2022.
In fairness it has been 42 years since the early 80s. So things do change over time.  The pics in the book depicted the kinds of sets I remember from childhood: two are shown in the book "I'm fun too".

Tonight I watched you tube. There are so many channels, vlogs, fancy video productions with big colored letters and people showing $1800 to $2000 hauls from the Lego store.  Part of me doesn't like all the fancy videos, yet another part watches in disbelief and envy.  Then there are so many videos on investment in sets which always make me think "people actually buy these to sell secondhand, it's a kids toy"

So for now I like blogging about legos but unfortunately the flashy videos and more expensive sets surpass me. I just miss the 80s where lego selling didn't exist on computers and costs were not as astronomical due to licensing.  There was just space, town, castle themes and general sets, not todays massive/ licensed sets. Now I cannot keep up with the multiple different lines of products and being part of lego community is hard without keeping up with videos and seeing the diversity of new sets out there online.  Reading a blog about legos can't compete with videos!
So my blogging isn't as neat as the videos, but I'll keep plugging away.  I feel like I'm an actual newspaper in a 24 hour instant news digital world.  I'm becoming obsolete with keeping up on trends and news about lego collecting and sharing on the internet.

After writing and thinking about Lego advances, this article came up on my news feed

Now the new red motorcycle and fancy brown horse in the above mentioned book above are being relinquished to the past and left thinking "I'm fun too"
